New Mercy Care Centre Academy is a light of hope in so much darkness. It provides a safe, loving environment where children are educated, fed, and experience God's love through their teachers.

• The New Mercy Care Centre Academy (NMCCA) is a non-denominational elementary school with a daycare facility located in Mathare Valley in Nairobi, Kenya. The loving and dedicated teachers formed an elementary school for educating the poor, feeding the poor, and providing spiritual guidance. 
• In 2015, the Mercy Care Centre Foundation (MCCF) in America, through the loving generosity of its sponsors, provided funds to buy a small piece of property and build the school, eliminating the rent payment each month. The school tries to be self-supporting, but it is difficult in such dire circumstances. Many parents cannot afford even the minimal fees.
• In 2019, a second story was built onto the existing building to add enough classrooms to provide the classes needed for a primary education degree.
  
• Currently the school has Pre-School to Standard 8 (8th grade). Teachers follow the Kenya Government curriculum for instruction and students who qualify sit for National Exams. 
  
• In addition to the Monday to Friday school days, students and community children can attend a Kickstart Program each Saturday.  This program includes outdoor game time, Bible stories, and snacks for the children, and is a highlight in the children's week. 
  

The Mercy Care Centre Foundation (MCCF), founded over 20 years ago, has been the nucleus from which several Christian schools have been started in Kenya. The Foundation works to raise funds and bring awareness to the children of the Mathare Valley slums.

• The MCCF and an organization in Australia provide minimal fees to cover teacher salaries, food for the students, some educational supplies, and funds for minor medical needs. They also work to support special projects for the school.
• In 2019, the Foundation had a successful Raise the Roof! campaign, to add 7th and 8th grade classrooms at New Mercy Care Centre Academy. This allows the current students to fully complete their elementary education.
• One hundred percent given to the MCCF goes directly to the children and is tax deductible. A board of volunteers administers the Foundation.

Thanks to our loyal supporters, the New Mercy Care Centre Academy is now able to offer 7th and 8th grade classes, allowing students to complete a full  elementary education, and sit for the national exams.

• To see these students through, the school needed to add a new second floor to accommodate 7th and 8th grades. Because the addition would block the skylights to the first floor, electric and solar power was added, to provide lights for the entire school. 
  The amazing thing about this project is that it was completed for less than $15,000!
• In January, 2020, all of the teachers received 2 full days of training on the new Kenyan Curriculum, funded by the Mercy Care Centre Foundation. A government trainer was brought to the school to ensure the teachers received the most effective learning. As a part of the training, they worked on creating hands-on opportunities for students, tapping into creativity and problem solving. They also worked on creating assessments to identify students needing help in mastering the various areas of the curriculum. The MCCF has also installed computers  as a part of the Kenyan Government school requirements.
